Italy and Europe are focused on war-torn Afghanistan and Libya, and security and the fight against terrorism remain 'central' issues, foreign minister Luigi Di Maio wrote Monday on Facebook.
Referencing talks with Qatari counterpart Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani on the sidelines of a European Union Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Brussels, Di Maio wrote: "We exchanged views on Afghanistan and Libya."
"Italy and Europe are closely involved with these countries," Di Maio went on.
Security, managing migration and terrorism were central issues addressed at the EU Foreign Affairs Council and a G7 foreign and development ministers meeting in Liverpool last week, Di Maio underlined.
"Many areas of work are ongoing such as our commitment in the Mediterranean, while security and controlling migration continue to be among our priorities, also because they are linked to another key topic: the fight against terrorism," he wrote.
"It is crucial to keep attention focused on these issues. Italy is doing just that and will continue to work tirelessly in all international arenas to find effective responses."
Maintaining dialogue with key player Qatar is also vital, Di Maio argued.
