Italy deplores the string of "barbaric" and "senseless" bomb attacks in Afghanistan over the past two days, the foreign ministry tweeted on Friday, urging an end to attacks on civilians in the Taliban-ruled country.
"Terrorist attacks targeting worshippers for their faith are barbaric, senseless crimes. Peace and the safety of civilians must be ensured," the foreign ministry tweeted.
Afghanistan arrested several leaders of the Islamic State jihadist group on Friday after blasts at a Sunni mosque in the city of Kunduz and a Shia mosque in Mazar-i-Sharif in the north killed scores of people and injured over 150.
IS claimed the mosque attacks and several others across Afghanistan on Thursday during the holy Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.
