Members of parliament will on Wednesday question foreign minister Luigi Di Maio on the government's planned use of the 209 billion euros Italy is due to receive from the European Union's fund to help the bloc's economy recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lawmakers from the joint foreign affairs and industry committees will quiz Di Maio at 8.30 am at the lower house of parliament on the government's spending priorities for Italy's 28% share of the 750 billion stimulus package agreed by EU leaders, the parliament said in a statement.

Wednesday's hearing will be live-streamed on the parliament's website, the parliament said.

The European Commission said it expects the whole 750 billion-euro recovery package made up of grants and low-interest loans to give a 2% boost to economic output by 2024 and to create 2 million jobs.
