European aid to Libya on migration and on rebuilding the war-ravaged country will be the focus of talks in Tripoli on Friday attended by Italy's foreign minister Luigi Di Maio, according to diplomatic sources.

Di Maio, his Maltese counterpart Everist Bartolo and European neighbourhood and enlargement commissioner Oliver Varhelyi are due to meet with Libya's premier Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, foreign minister Najla Mangoush and interior minister Khaled Mazen, the sources said.

The talks aim to sketch a roadmap for European Union aid to propel Libya's social and economic revival, with Italy playing a leading role in the process, according to the sources.

Di Maio, Bartolo and Varhelyi's visit comes ahead of a trip to Rome on Monday by Dbeibah and a Libyan delegation, who will take part in a forum aimed at bolstering bilateral business ties.
