A 32-year-old Bulgarian woman who escaped from jail in Rome last week after her extradition to Italy from Germany was arrested in the capital on Monday and taken back to prison, a trade union official said.
"We have been informed that the prisoner has been re-captured," said Massimo Costantino, head of the Lazio region's Fns-Cisl trade union which includes prison guards.
The woman was held at Rome's central Termini train station after managing to break out of the capital's Rebibbia jail on Friday, he said.
The Bulgarian escaped the same day she arrived at Rebbibia to serve a four-year sentence for theft following her extradition from Germany.
Officials have not stated how the woman managed to get out of Rebibbia.
