A flight left from southern Italy for Khartoum on Thursday carrying 10 tonnes of essential humanitarian supplies for victims of the devastating flooding in Sudan, the overseas aid department tweeted.
"An Italian overseas aid department flight took off from the United Nations logistics hub in Brindisi bound for Khartoum with 10 tonnes of emergency aid items on board for the populations hit by the flooding (in Sudan), read the tweet.
Over 100,000 households have been left homeless as a result of months of heavy rains that have caused severe flooding in Sudan and killed at least 124 people, the country's interior ministry said on Thursday.
Earlier in September, Sudan’s Security and Defence Council declared a national state of emergency for three months and designated Sudan a “natural disaster zone.”
