Italy must take a "frank and pragmatic" approach to relations with Russia and China, in tandem with the European Union, NATO and the Group of Seven, foreign minister Luigi Di Maio said on Friday.
"With Russia and China we need to have a frank and pragmatic approach to gain their commitment on the big issues which cannot be disregarded," Di Maio stated.
Areas to tackle with China and Russia include climate change and resolving regional crises, Di Maio said.
"We need to do this in coordination with our European and Atlantic partners and the G7," said Di Maio.
Di Maio made the remarks in an address to an event held at the foreign ministry to launch the new decode39 geopolitics website, which offers analysis from Italy in English and Arabic.
